Title: Vicious
Author: V. E. Schwab (also known as Victoria Schwab)
Published: September 24, 2013
Blurb (taken from Goodreads): Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Review: Vicious was so good! I loved every minute of it. This book is listed as adult, but I think it has a great crossover appeal. When I went into this book I knew very little about what it was about. The book has superheros and paranormal abilities, and honestly I was very shocked to have liked Vicious as much as I did. While reading this book you switch POV between Victor and Eli during different time periods - of when they were friends in college leading up to them being enemies now. You also get a glimpse of the point of views from their sidekicks, which I thought was fun. I think my favorite thing about Vicious was the characters. Victoria Schwab does a fantastic job creating her characters. Every character in this book was so tremendously screwed up which caused for some very intense scenes. By the end of the book it's up to you on who you think the villain and the hero are, and I loved how blurred Victoria made that line. If Miss Schwab ever wanted to write a sequel for these books, I would definitely buy it.
